A 3 night Miombo & Riparian Woodland Birding Safari combining Bufumu campsite with Luwombwa Lodge

3 night Miombo & Riparian Woodland Birding Safari combining Bufumu campsite with Luwombwa Lodge.

Day 1: Arrive at Luwombwa Lodge and enjoy lunch before a guided walk through the woodlands to Bufumu campsite where your camp will be set up and waiting for you to enjoy your first night under the stars.
Day 2: Enjoy guided walks in the area in and around Bufumu and spend your second night at the camp overlooking the Mateshe with amazing birding at or below eye-level!
Day 3: After breakfast, hike back from Bufumu to Luwomwba Lodge. Enjoy guided river activities and walks in the area and spend your last night at Kasanka in the chalets at Luwomwba Lodge.
Day 4: Enjoy a hearty breakfast at Luwomwba before heading home.

3 night Mushitu swamp forest and Kasanka wetlands combining Pontoon campsite and Wasa Lodge.

Day 1: Arrive at Wasa Lodge and enjoy lunch before hiking to Pontoon for night 1.
Day 2: Enjoy guided walks in the area in and around Pontoon and spend your second night at the camp overlooking the swampland with a canopy of birdlife to enjoy.
Day 3: Wake up early to enjoy sightings of sitatunga across the dambos while enjoying a big breakfast. Hike from Pontoon to Wasa with a guided afternoon walk around the lake and spend your last night at Kasanka in the chalets at Wasa Lodge.
Day 4: Breakfast in the dining area overlooking Lake Wasa before packing up and heading home.

Most visitors coming from overseas choose to fly directly into Kasanka by private charter as we have our own airstrip in the park (12deg 33’South 30deg 09’East) and an aircraft based We can arrange the air charters from anywhere in Zambia. It is a about a 1 and a half hour flight from Lusaka, 1 hour from Mfuwe in the Luangwa, and just 45 minutes from Ndola.!

Sky Trails Ltd is an independent charter company which is based in Kasanka N.P. so that there is usually as aircraft available locally for air charters to, from or around the area. If you need any help or advice in planning your itinerary or arranging charter flights, please contact us.

Directions from Lusaka / Copperbelt: 

Driving to Kasanka from Lusaka or the Copperbelt will typically take you about 5-6 hours. The roads are all tarred up to the park entrance and currently in excellent condition.

Take the Great North Road passing through Kabwe on to Kapiri Mposhi. Pass through Kapiri and after about 4 kms turn right towards Mpika and Tanzania. Passing the Mkushi turn-off, and you will reach the Serenje turn-off, clearly visible with a Lake Petroleum and Serenje Gas Pad. It is recommended to fill your tanks here as it is the last fuel stop. Continue on the main road for 36km until you will find a tarred road on your left signed to ‘Mansa’. Turn left here, and continue for 55km, at which point you will see a large sign to Kasanka and the park gate on your left side. The gate is always manned, and you will receive further directions from here to Wasa camp, which is 11kms from the gate.
