King Lewanika Lodge, inside the Liuwa Plains National Park offers you the best seat in the house for the viewing of the impressive Liuwa Plains wildebeest migration, the second biggest in Africa at this time of year. Thereafter you will take a scheduled flight back to Lusaka, in time to catch your flight out to Kasanka National Park, where you will stay at Wasa Lodge, to witness the Zambian bat migration, one of the most jaw-dropping spectacles of nature because it is largest mammal migration in the world.

Day 1 - 5 | 4 nights

King Lewanika, Liuwa Plains

Located on the upper Munde stream, a site in the Liuwa Plains chosen for its sweeping vistas and complete wildlife immersion, King Lewanika, comprises of six luxury villas and a two bedroomed family villa. This newly restored luxury lodge is where you will spend 5 magnificent days experiencing the abundant wildlife and history that this area has to offer.

Day 5 - 8 | 3 nights

Wasa Lodge, Kasanka National Park

Enjoy a 3 night fully inclusive stay in the Wasa Lodge chalets - situated in a
forest of indigenous trees overlooking Lake Wasa. Enjoy access to private hides for the bats, the best spots to photograph the sitatunga and take day trips out into the Luwombwa region for our other bird specials like Pels Fishing Owl, Bohm’s Bee-Eater, Ross’s Turaco – all pretty special species and near certainties at Kasanka.

Travel Logistics

Lusaka – King Lewanika, Liuwa Plains: A scheduled charter flight will fly you from Lusaka to Kalabo Airport just outside  Liuwa. Here, you will be met by a representative from King Lewanika Lodge and transported by road  for approximately 2 hours to the isolated, yet luxurious, newly renovated lodge to begin the start of your 5 day stay in Western Zambia.

King Lewanika Lodge – Lusaka –  Wasa Lodge, Kasanka National Park:  After a sumptuous  breakfast at King Lewanika Lodge, you will travel back to Kalabo Airstrip to catch your charter back to Lusaka Airport. A quick change over at Lusaka will ensure that you catch the scheduled flight to Kasanka  where you will be met by a representative from Kasanka and driven to Wasa Lodge, approximately 15 minutes away.

Wasa Lodge, Kasanka – Lusaka Airport: After a wonderful 3 nights at Wasa Lodge, experiencing the bat migration,  you will transfer back to Mulembo Airstrip in order to catch your scheduled flight back to Lusaka Airport.

TO NOTE: This “Bats and Beests” safari can also be done in the reverse order (Lusaka – Kasanka – Lusaka – King Lewanika)
