Nanzhila – Plains Camp, Southern Kafue
15 years ago Steve and Cindy Smith took on Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp in the Southern Kafue National Park. Their first week in the area revealed nothing but a tortoise! Over the years, Steve and Cindy slowly established Nanzhila as a sought after destination for discerning wildlife enthusiasts looking for a remote wilderness experience. In 2016, Steve and Cindy engaged Wildman Safaris to handle their marketing and reservations and this coincided with a remarkable recovery of the wildlife populations of the Southern Kafue. Over the next 3 years, tourism numbers and wildlife sightings increased dramatically as wildlife got more habituated to visitors and access to Southern Kafue got easier with national road improvements.
Nanzhila Lake Camp, Central Kafue
In 2020, following the success at the Plains Camp, Steve and Cindy are joined by their son, Sean. Together they are opening the second Bushcamp on the shoreline of Lake Itezhi-tezhi to offer guests the best of both worlds in the Southern Kafue.
Kafue River Lodge, Northern Kafue
In 2017, Paul Marits and Paul Barnes began an audacious project to bring sustainably based tourism led conservation to the Northern Kafue. After re-doing Kafue River Lodge, Paul Barnes then contracted Wildman Safaris to assist with their marketing and reservations and plans to get tourism to lead a conservation recovery in these remote sectors of Kafue National Park. As Kafue River Lodge began to find its feet, Paul was then able to secure 2 further concessions and Northern Kafue Safaris was officially launched as the new brand.
Kasonso Camp, Busanga Plains
In 2019, Northern Kafue Safaris launched Kasonso Busanga – a back to basics styled Bushcamp in the prime wildlife viewing area of the Busanga Plains. Backed by arguably the best guiding team in the Kafue, Kasonso was a guest success story from the very beginning and stands to be enormously popular in the years to come.
Lunga Kikuji Camp, Lunga River Wilderness
As a quieter, more reclusive sibling to Kasonso and Kafue River Lodge, the final member of the portfolio opened late in 2019. Kikuji Camp on the Lunga River offers exceptional birding, river experiences and recovering wildlife populations and is a fabulous add on experience in the Northern Kafue portfolio.
